I have been a newspaper photographer in Chicago for over 40 years. This journey has taken me around the world. Reflecting back I cannot help but feel how blessed I have been to have rubbed elbows with the rich and famous, popes, presidents and everyday folk. Assignments have ranged from wars to press conferences. I have explored the depths of coal mines in Virginia and Kentucky and climbed to the very top of the Sears and Hancock buildings. My goal was always to inform the readers through my eyes and take them to places they may not have been, giving them a new and different perspective on the everyday, perhaps bringing a tear to their eyes or a smile to their faces. I have garnered over a thousand awards for my work including a prestigious Pulitzer Prize.
